Held annually, PICA’s largest public event provides venues across town for a ten day contemporary arts festival. For three years in a row The Works has hosted evening dinners and late night musical, theater and dance performances. In 2005, the late night venue was a vacated shipping warehouse and transfer station in NW Portland.
Scaffolding provided a modular, temporary infrastructure for infilling this empty parking lot. Construction fence and light acted as a translucent skin for enclosing and attracting patrons. Trees inhabited a back “garden” space while stairs, seating plinths and ramps sit adjacent and provide access to the loading dock and cabaret space.
